The mining-metallurgical activities in Quicay consisted in a gold-deposit exploitation using an open pit technique, and an ore recovery process using a heap leaching technique in a closed circuit and without discharges into the environment. During Quicay's mining exploitation stage, 7,490 MT/day of ore were produced with variable grades from 0.60 to 0.80 Gr/MT.
Corporación Minera Centauro entirely developed all the activities in the Quicay Mine: from the ore extraction to the smeltering process to obtain doré bars as the final product. Qualified and specialized personnel were employed in the fields of chemistry laboratory, metallurgical research and hydrometallurgical plant. The hydrometallurgical plant included adsorption circuits, stripping circuits, electrolytic cells and a smelting area to produce doré bars.
After Quicay's Mine Closure, Corporación Minera Centauro continued leaching the ore at piles and recovering valuable metals through adsorption on activated carbon, stripping, electroplating and fusion of gold and silver bullion.
